Copy trading
A copy-trading strategy follows one or more traders and keeps your own Hyperliquid account in proportion to their positions — or opposite to them, if you countertrade. Copy trading is not open yet: a strategy can be built and activated, and its page says it places no orders until copying opens.
Starting a strategy
Open Create a copy strategy from the strategies page, or use Copy on a leaderboard row or a trader’s page, which starts one with that trader. Simple is the default experience and fills in safe settings; Professional shows every control, including Countertrade.
Portfolio mode copies several traders at once with weights in whole percents, at least 1% each and 100% in total; adding a trader splits the weights evenly. Single Trader mode copies one trader at 100%. The trader picker lists the top 20 by 7-day PnL among traders active in the last 7 days.
Give the strategy a name of up to 100 characters and, if you like, a description of up to 500.
Size and risk controls
Strategy capital: the dollars the strategy sizes its copies from, from $100 to $100,000,000. Max leverage, from 1× to 10× in steps of 0.5×, caps it: no single position is larger than capital times max leverage.
Slippage tolerance, from 0 to 100 bps, bounds how far from the mid an order may fill. Min order size skips copies too small to be worth an order.
Only copy these markets and Never copy these markets take up to 50 markets each, and a market cannot be on both. Hyperliquid’s own perpetuals are supported; HIP-3 markets and spot are not copied.
Follow new entries only is on by default: positions a trader already held when your strategy started are not copied, only what they open afterwards. Max adverse entry skips an entry when the price has already moved against it by more than the set amount (0 to 5000 bps); exits are never blocked by it.
Simple starts from 2× max leverage, 10 bps slippage, a $25 minimum order, new entries only and a 100 bps adverse-entry cap.
Follow or countertrade
Follow copies a trader’s direction. Countertrade, in Professional, takes the opposite side of every position, to fade a trader instead. The direction can only be changed while the strategy is paused.
Activating, and what the strategy manages
A new strategy starts paused. Activating it needs an authorized agent wallet (see Agent wallets and security), and one account can run one active strategy at a time.
The strategy works on your main Hyperliquid account. Positions you already held when it was activated are yours: they are left as they are, and the traders’ moves in those markets are skipped. Positions you open by hand after activation are treated as part of the strategy’s book and may be resized or closed, so keep manual trading to an account that runs no strategy.
Pausing and ending
Pause stops copying new trades and keeps every position as it is: pausing never liquidates.
End and keep positions stops the strategy for good. Its positions are not closed — close them yourself when you choose — and an ended strategy cannot be resumed.
Watching a strategy
Each strategy’s page shows what it copied and how its orders filled. The execution log lists every order with its outcome — filled, rejected or skipped — and the reason. Copy quality measures slippage against the mid at decision time and the delay after the trader’s own fill, over 30 days by default, once there are at least 20 samples.
Risk
Copied trades can lose money, and a trader’s past performance does not predict future returns. Copies are placed after the trader’s own fills, at the prices then available, so results differ from theirs.
